Rosemount TUpH pH/ORP sensors are robust sensors designed to meet a number of difficult application requirements. Sensors feature a variety of options suited to meet a number of installation requirements and are ideal for use in dirty, abrasive, coating, and high solid applications.

Robust sensor design

■ TUpH reference technology minimizes sensor maintenance and ensures a steady pH/oxidation reduction potential (ORP) signal even when sensor is coated.

■ Maximize sensor life with poisoning-resistant helical reference pathway design.

■ Optional flat pH glass electrode for abrasive and coating applications.

■ Maximum process pressure: 150 psig (10.34 barg).

■ Maximum process temperature: 212.0 °F (100 °C). Versatile mounting options to meet your installation requirements

■ Rosemount 396P/396PVP sensors feature 1 in (25 mm) male national pipe thread (MNPT) front and rear facing process threads.

■ Rosemount 396R/396RVP offered in21 in (533 mm) and 36 in (914 mm) lengths suitable for use with retraction assemblies. Easily remove sensors for maintenance and calibration without having to shut down your process.

■ Variopol (VP8) cable connection option, for quick cable-tosensor release, eliminates cable twisting. Rosemount 396 family of piping assemblies and fittings, and the second part refers to the Rosemount TUpH family of pH and ORP sensors.

Let's break this down clearly.

Part 1: Rosemount 396 - Piping Assemblies & Fittings

The Rosemount 396 series are not the sensors themselves. They are mounting systems, flow chambers, and fittings designed to install and protect Rosemount's pH/ORP and conductivity sensors in a pipeline. Think of them as the "housing" or "assembly" that you screw the actual sensor into.

Here is what those model numbers mean:

Model Code Description

396 The base series for retractable and immersion sensor fittings.

396P A Flow Chamber (P = Pipe). This is a spool piece you install inline in a pipe. The sensor is threaded into it, exposing the electrode to the flowing process.

396VP A Flow Chamber (P) with a built-in Ball Valve (V). This allows you to retract the sensor without shutting down the process, which is crucial for maintenance and safety.

396R A Retractable (R) assembly. This is used to mount a sensor into a tank or vessel, typically at an angle.

396RVP A Retractable (R) assembly with a Ball Valve (V) and a Flow Chamber (P). This is a common, versatile assembly for pipeline insertion that allows for safe retraction.

In short: The 396 series is the hardware you mount the sensor into.

Part 2: Rosemount TUpH - pH and ORP Sensors

The TUpH series is the actual sensor or electrode that performs the pH or ORP measurement. These are the intelligent, replaceable elements that you install into the 396 assemblies mentioned above.

TUpH: Stands for the transmitter compatible, UnpH (Universal pH) platform. These are modern, intelligent sensors.

pH Sensor: Measures the acidity or alkalinity of a solution (0-14 pH).

ORP Sensor: Measures the Oxidation-Reduction Potential of a solution, in millivolts (mV). Used for disinfection (e.g., chlorine), cyanide destruction, etc.

How They Work Together: A Typical System

A complete installation requires components from both families, plus a transmitter.

Example: Measuring pH in a Chemical Pipe

Mounting Hardware: A Rosemount 396VP assembly is welded or screwed into the pipeline. The ball valve allows for isolation.

Sensor: A Rosemount TUpH pH sensor is threaded into the 396VP assembly. Its measuring tip is now exposed to the flowing liquid.

Connection: The sensor's cable is connected to...

Transmitter: A Rosemount 56 or 1066 Transmitter. This device powers the sensor, receives the signal, converts it to a pH value, and outputs a 4-20 mA or digital signal to your control system (e.g., PLC, DCS).

Summary

Rosemount 396 (P, VP, R, RVP): These are the fittings, housings, and assemblies for installing a sensor into a process.

Rosemount TUpH (pH/ORP): These are the actual sensing elements that measure the water quality parameter.
