Rosemount 396P and 396PVP pH/oxidation reduction potential (ORP) sensors feature a model reinforced polypropylene body with forward and rear facing 1 in (25 mm) male pipe threads (MPT) suitable for insertion, submersion, and flow-through installations.

The Rosemount 396P sensor has an integral cable connection, and the Rosemount 396PVP sensor has a Variopol cable connection for use with VP8 interconnecting cables (sold separately).

You are looking at two parts that create a complete measurement point in a pipeline:

The Housing/Flow Chamber: Rosemount 396 / 396VP (The hardware installed in the pipe).

The Sensing Element: Rosemount TUpH (The intelligent, replaceable pH or ORP electrode).

Part 1: The Flow Chambers (396 vs. 396VP)

These are spool pieces designed for direct, in-line installation into a process pipeline.

Feature Rosemount 396 Rosemount 396VP

Description Basic Flow Chamber Flow Chamber with Ball Valve

Key Feature Simple, cost-effective spool piece. Integral ball valve between the process and the sensor.

Maintenance Requires Process Shutdown. You must drain and depressurize the line to remove the sensor. Allows "Hot-Tap" Retraction. The valve lets you isolate and remove the sensor while the process is running.

Use Case Non-hazardous applications where process shutdown is easy and acceptable. The Industry Standard. Used for continuous processes and for safety with hazardous, hot, or pressurized media.

Visual Difference: The 396VP has a prominent ball valve handle on the sensor port; the basic 396 does not.

Part 2: The Sensing Elements (TUpH pH / ORP Sensors)

The TUpH series are the "smart" sensors that thread into the ports of the 396 or 396VP housings.

TUpH: Stands for "Transmitter compatible, Universal pH."

pH Sensors: Measure acidity or alkalinity on a 0-14 scale.

ORP Sensors: Measure Oxidation-Reduction Potential in millivolts (mV), used for controlling disinfection (e.g., chlorine, ozone).

Key Features of TUpH Sensors:

Smart Preload: The sensor stores its calibration data. A compatible transmitter can automatically read this data, making sensor replacement fast and easy.

Dual Preload: Can store calibration for two different buffer solutions.

Robust Design: Available in materials like PPS and PVDF to handle various chemical processes.
