MTS magnetostrictive displacement sensors (now under the brand name Temposonics) are mainly divided into industrial general-purpose, mobile machinery, economical, and special application categories. Common series include R, G, E, M, C, L, D, etc.
Industrial General-Purpose Series: R, G, E
These three series are relatively common in industrial automation, with performance and positioning decreasing in order.
R Series (High Performance): This is one of MTS's higher-performance series. It supports various buses such as EtherCAT and Profibus, has a short measurement cycle (as fast as 100 microseconds), and offers extremely high linearity (≤0.01%). It is suitable for applications requiring high precision and synchronous control.
G Series (Intelligent Programmable): It offers excellent performance and comes with diagnostic functions, supporting analog output as well as digital pulse outputs such as Start/Stop. It has good compatibility with older models, making it convenient for replacement and upgrading of old equipment.
E Series (Economical): Focused on high cost-effectiveness, it provides analog and Start/Stop outputs, and is a common choice for replacing potentiometers or for cost-sensitive applications.
Mobile Machinery Series: M
The M Series is designed specifically for mobile equipment such as construction machinery and agricultural machinery. It is optimized for electro-hydraulic power system applications, and typically features a compact structure that can withstand outdoor vibration and harsh environments.
Other Special and Compact Series
C Series: Modular economical sensors, mainly aimed at markets requiring low cost and high volume, such as light industry and medical equipment.
L Series (including LD type): A specific model series. Some models, such as LD2, may require consulting the manufacturer to confirm purchasing eligibility.
D Series: Features dual-magnet measurement capability, suitable for applications such as injection molding machines that need to measure two positions simultaneously.
GB Series: Compact rod-style sensors with a threaded flange, designed specifically for limited spaces such as inside hydraulic cylinders, with a temperature resistance of up to 100°C.
In addition, MTS also has the T Series (an earlier product line) and the Level Plus level gauge series. If you can tell me the specific application scenario (for example, built into a hydraulic cylinder or externally mounted on a machine tool), I can help you determine which model is more suitable.
