Emerson PR6423/002-000 CON021 (commonly referred to as the EPRO PR6423) is a high-performance eddy current displacement sensor engineered to provide non-contact, continuous measurement of shaft position, vibration, and eccentricity in critical rotating machinery .

As part of Emerson's globally recognized EPRO series, the PR6423/002-000 is designed to meet the stringent demands of API 670 protection systems, making it the industry standard for steam turbines, gas turbines, compressors, and large pumps in power generation, oil and gas, and heavy industrial applications .

What is the Emerson PR6423/002-000?

The Emerson PR6423/002-000 is a linear eddy current displacement sensor that operates on the principle of high-frequency eddy currents . It is designed to measure both static (position) and dynamic (vibration) displacements of conductive targets without physical contact. The sensor is typically paired with a signal converter (such as the CON021) to condition the raw signal for use with monitoring systems like the Emerson CSI 6500 or AMS 6500 machinery protection platforms .

The "/002-000" in the model number designates a specific configuration variant, indicating the mechanical and electrical design suitable for standard industrial mounting requirements . The CON021 suffix refers to the companion signal converter that ensures precise signal linearization and temperature compensation .

How Eddy Current Technology Works

The Emerson PR6423/002-000 operates by generating a high-frequency magnetic field from the probe tip. When a conductive (ferrous or non-ferrous) target—such as a turbine shaft—approaches this field, eddy currents are induced in the target material . This changes the impedance of the sensor's coil. The CON021 signal converter detects this impedance change and converts it into a voltage output that is directly proportional to the gap distance between the probe tip and the shaft .

Because this is a non-contact method, there is no mechanical wear or loading on the rotating shaft, ensuring unlimited sensor life and maintenance-free operation.
