Emerson PR6424/006-111 CON031 is a high-performance 16mm eddy current displacement sensor designed for non-contact measurement of vibration, shaft position, and dynamic displacement in critical rotating machinery . Part of Emerson's renowned EPRO series, this advanced sensor delivers exceptional accuracy and reliability for turbomachinery protection and condition monitoring systems across power generation, oil and gas, and industrial processing industries.

How the Eddy Current Sensing Technology Works

The PR6424/006-111 operates on electromagnetic eddy current principles. When high-frequency alternating current passes through the sensor's internal coil, it generates a magnetic field that induces eddy currents in conductive target materials (typically ferromagnetic steel shafts) . These eddy currents create an opposing magnetic field, altering the coil impedance proportionally to the gap between sensor tip and target surface. This non-contact measurement method enables continuous monitoring without mechanical wear, making it ideal for high-speed rotating equipment.

Key Technical Specifications

The Emerson PR6424/006-111 CON031 offers impressive performance characteristics:

Sensitivity: 4 V/mm (101.6 mV/mil)

Measurement Range: ±2.0 mm dynamic, ±2.5 mm static

Linearity: ≤ ±1.5% full scale

Nominal Air Gap: 2.7 mm

Temperature Range: -35°C to +180°C standard (with excursions to 200°C)

Long-term Drift: < 0.3%

Pressure Resistance: 10,000 hPa (145 psi) at sensor head

The 16mm diameter probe provides extended measurement range compared to standard 8mm sensors, making it particularly suitable for large rotating machinery where greater vibration amplitudes may occur.
