The 1756-IB16IF is one of the modules that use CIP sync for both scheduling and timestamps. Modules such as this are known as slave-only devices because they need another module on the same network that will act as the master clock. The CIP sync is used system-wide, which means that the timestamps and schedule values are consistent across all the modules in the system.
This module can also be used for detecting or latching short duration pulses. Incoming pulses with durations as short as 10 μs can be detected by the 1756-IB16IF module—this is assuming the frequency is 4kHz within a period of 250 μs.
