Woodward UG-8 is a UG series mechanical hydraulic governor, used to control diesel, gas, dual-fuel engines or steam turbines. The following is its related introduction:

Structural features

Oil pump: It is a positive displacement gear pump, driven by the prime mover to drive the governor's transmission shaft, can be forward or reverse, with 4 check valves, and the pressure oil flows into the pressure accumulation system through the check valve.

Pressure accumulation chamber: It includes two pistons pressed by springs. When the oil pressure is higher than 827kpa, the oil will enter the oil chamber through the pressure relief port in the oil cylinder to relieve the pressure to maintain the working oil pressure.

Power piston: The top of its piston rod is connected to the governor output shaft through the power rod and connecting rod. The slide valve system controls the pressure oil to flow into the bottom of the power piston, or flow back to the oil chamber from the bottom of the piston, so that the governor output shaft turns to the position of increasing or decreasing the oil supply.

Sliding valve system: It consists of a sliding valve plunger and a rotating sliding valve sleeve. There is a control console on the plunger to control the pressure oil to flow into/out of the power piston through the hole on the sliding valve sleeve. The movement of the sliding valve plunger is controlled by the uniform speed plate and the compensation buffer piston.

Uniform speed plate system: It consists of a uniform speed plate, a fly iron, a speed spring, a thrust bearing, a speed gear and a speed rod. The uniform speed plate senses the speed change of the prime mover and compares it with the set speed of the speed spring to adjust the position of the sliding valve plunger.

Compensation system: It includes a large-area buffer compensation piston, a small-area buffer compensation piston, a floating lever, a compensation adjustment lever with a fulcrum and a needle valve. Its function is to provide stability for the governor and obtain stable speed control.

Load limit control: It includes a load indicating gear, a load limiting rack meshing with the gear, and a control knob connected to the load limiting cam. The mechanical position of the limit is set by manually adjusting the knob to limit the stroke of the governor output shaft in the oil increase direction, thereby limiting the oil supply and the power of the engine.

Functional characteristics

Precise speed control: can accurately control the speed of the engine or steam turbine to ensure stable speed output under different load conditions.

Load distribution function: its built-in differential speed regulation function can distribute and balance the load of the two engines when parallel propulsion or grid-connected power generation.

Load limit function: the load limit dial display can limit the stroke of the governor output shaft to limit the fuel supply, and can also be used to stop the prime mover.

Application field

UG-8 governor is mostly used for diesel generators for power generation, and is also widely used in ships, industrial power generation, pump drives, compressor drives and other fields. It can accurately control the speed of the engine or turbine according to different working conditions to ensure the stable operation of the equipment.
